Engineered Wood Flooring on Stairs

Question:
I am thinking about replacing my carpet on the stairs with either engineered wood flooring or another carpet. It is high traffic, and we also have 3 cats, who choose to have their hairballs or whatever else on the stairs, quite often. I would prefer engineered wood flooring, but would it be too slippery for stairs? Please give me your advice.
