Basement Heating
Question:
We built a 2400 sq. ft. house with full basement. We have an open stairway and we can not keep basement temperature comfortable in winter. How can we keep heat in basement?
Answer:
The furnace should be big enough to cover the basement or keep it at a comfortable level.
You will never be able to control the basement as well as the upstairs due to the thermostat being in the main living area. You would need a zone system to accomplish that. You should find out how many cfm's the furnace is capable of putting out, then count up your runs. A 6" run is capable of 100 cfm., the furnace size should be a 1600 cfm furnace then you can see how many runs you would have available for the basement compared to what you have now.
